October 4, 2010 watching over our hearts diligently

Our Great Shepherd and Lord and King is Faithful and True and I'm so thankful. His blood purchased our forgiveness, our redemption, our access into God's presence, our victory over death, and eternal life with Him. So, no matter what  temporary circumstances surround us, we can rejoice, because all is well in Him today. I'm praying for you now.

Proverbs 4 is awesome! I've been so blessed over the years by reading a Proverb each day, whatever the number of the day it is.  One verse in particular captivated me   in Proverbs 4.23 which says, "Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. "  So today we are to watch over our heart with all diligence.   Carefully. On purpose. As a priority. Who watches over our heart? It is a responsibility given to us alone. And as with everything, it is our choice. And our precious Holy Spirit will guide and teach us how to do it.

Why must we guard  or watch over our hearts?  Because  out of the condition of our heart will flow everything else about our life. Remember Jesus said in Matthew 5 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Our Lord had much to say about the heart.  With all diligence means that watching over our heart must be a continual practice. Here are a few items on the checklist that may be helpful in staying diligent. Make God's Word a priority. Guard your time set apart with the Lord. Habit of prayer (this one is so key.)  Lifestyle of thanksgiving and worship. Check up on your words. Watch what you allow in through your eyes and ears. (your heart will reflect what you choose to allow in).  Don't let your mind dwell on whatever it wants.....take your thoughts captive, casting down vain imaginations. Keep out the weeds of unforgiveness, offense and bitterness daily. Hang around other people who are heart guarders. Invite the Holy Spirit to be your continual Teacher, and heart keeper. Oh let's learn to   watch over the condition of our hearts well, for we will enjoy the continual wellspring of His presence filling us and overflowing to all around.
