Knowing our Lord, doing His Word

Oh the Word of God is so rich, the Holy Spirit so faithful to bring fresh revelation as we delight in it. It's wonderful to be  transformed by His Word as we get a steady diet of reading.

This morning I'm thinking of the most important aspect of our pursuit of God's amazing Word. It concerns our DOING of the Word that we are receiving. John 14: 21 says "He who has My Word and keeps It, he it is who loves Me; and he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him, and will disclose Myself to him.  And again the Lord emphasizes this in verse 23.  "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our abode with Him."   He goes on to explain that those that do not love Him do not keep His Word.   And then He gives us the most comforting    promise, that He would send the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit will teach us all things.  We know that when He left, He did send the Holy Spirit who has been with us ever since!  The Holy Spirit teaches us the Word and illuminates our understanding.  The Holy Spirit also provides the grace for us to do the Word. Oh the hearing of God's Word is crucial....every day......reading it, listening to it, even going to church where your pastor brings a fresh Word from the Lord to feed  and equip you.  But the most paramount is that we obey and do the Word we receive.

Oh Lord, help me to be doer of your Word, obeying your Word, submitting to Your Will.  His will is in His Word.  Every day we must decide to obey God's Word. And then there will be a thousand opportunities to really obey it!   Especially in the area of our thoughts, our words, matters of walking in love and forgiveness, matters of our heart that we  willingly submit our flesh to His will.  I have to mention here what is to me one of the scariest verses in the Bible.  It's scarier than the scariest movie. I think about it every day.  In Matthew 7:21 our Jesus says," Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the kingdom of heaven, but HE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER who is in heaven.  Many will say to Me on that day, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your Name, and in Your name cast our demons, and in Your name perform many miracles.' And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.  Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and ACTS upon them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on a rock....."

We know our Lord through spending time with Him in His Word and submitting our will to obeying  it. And the rains will come.  The floods will come. The winds will blow.  But our continual habit of hearing and doing God's Word will ensure that our house will stand, because it is founded upon the Rock.  Don't let anything, anything, crowd out your time in God's Word. And ask the Holy Spirit to give you His grace and fortitude to obey it.  He will. Oh He will.
